What they’d like to see in a magazine codes:

R = Reviews

G = Gossip

C = Competitions

P = Photo Shoots

A = Advertisements

N = News

F = Features

I = Interviews

From my questionnaire I can see that the majority of people I asked had a favourite genre of music as pop.  There was a conflict between how often the magazine should be published with four people saying once a week and four people saying once a month. After considering this I have decided that going to once a fortnight would not be a wise decision as 2/10 of the people I questioned would have chosen that, therefore making it a small audience but I think if I were to do the once a week option then the once a fortnight people could buy it once a fortnight, the once a month people once a month, and the once a week people would be satisfied with a new magazine every week so this should hopefully cater to everybody’s needs. There was a large range of prices people would be willing to pay, which could possibly be depending on how often they would like it published, however the two most common price ranges were £1.50 -£2.00 and £2.00 - £2.50. To be on the safe side it would be ideal to place my magazine at £2.00 as that is the median of both ranges. To work out the features I should put in my magazine I looked at the answers that received 50% or more of the people I surveyed saying yes to them. These were, Reviews, Gossip, Competitions, Photo Shoots, News, Features, and Interviews. Advertisements, however were close at 40% therefore including some would still be appropriate. All of the people said the main factor in choosing a band is the lyrics/ style of music. Most currently do not buy any music magazine on a regular basis but those that did were in the 16-30 age range and bought NME or Q. Most of the younger people I surveyed said there music came from ITunes, apart from person 2 who gets it from her children that get music off ITunes. The older people I surveyed tended to get there music off of CD’s which is an indication of how crucial it is to know your audience’s preference to cater for their needs. 70% of the people have attended 0 festivals this year but 30% have attended between 1-5 which suggest the magazine I produce should include some include something about festivals, but not be a main priority. Most have seen 1- 5 bands live this year and a comment I received was that people like to know of upcoming concert dates, therefore this should definitely be a regular feature of my magazine. Many buy between 1-5 albums/ singles per month however, this does depend on which artists are out that month that they like. A majority said they did not feel the music they listen to influences the clothes they wear and half of the people surveyed said they would prefer to listen to music on an Mp3/IPod, with live being the next best option.
